Fáskrúðsfjörður is in the centre of the East Fjords, and it lies between Reyðarfjörður and Stöðvarfjörður, which are also the nearest neighbouring villages.

In the mouth of the Fjord is an Island called Skrúður with multicoloured birdlife. Over 18 bird species nest there, but most of them are puffin.

The town is known for its French heritage. It is worth going to the historical French Museum to learn about the history and see where the French hospital is. The French influence can also be seen on the road signs that are in French and Icelandic.
In Fáskrúðsfjörður you can find a grocery store, swimming pool, shops, restaurants and a gas station.
