Mjóifjörður is an 18 km long fjord in the East Iceland. It is thought of a hidden pearl behind the mountain. In Mjóifjörður is a tiny village called Brekkuþorp. From there it is worth driving to the lighthouse in Dalatangi.
During winter the roads are closed to Mjóifjörður. But you can take a ferry from Neskaupsstaður to go there. For shopping and gas you have to drive about 40 minutes to Egilsstaðir.
Egilsstaðir is situated at the northern part of the Lagarfljót river and is the largest town of the Eastern Region with ca 2500 inhabitants. It has everything from gas stations, supermarkets, restaurants, cafés, and a swimming pool.
