You find a number of supermarkets, restaurants and gas stations here, as well as swimming pools and interesting museums and other sights.

In the center you find the Akureyri Church, built in 1940, with its stained-glass windows portraying scenes from Icelandic Christian history. The nearby Akureyri Art Museum displays contemporary art from Iceland and abroad. Close to the center are the Botanical Gardens, with specimens from all across Iceland.
