Skorradalsvatn, in Skorradalur valley, is a big lake between Hvalfjörður and Borgarfjörður. It is 16 km long, 1 km wide, and up to 60 meters deep. For most houses standing at the lake there is a trout fishing licence.
Borgarnes is the nearest town, with restaurants, bigger supermarkets, cafés and the fascinating museum, the Settlement Center. There is also a lovely swimming pool with a steam bath, an ice bath and hot tubs.
In Borgarfjörður, you don't want to miss Reykholt, Deildartunguhver hot spring, and the lava waterfall Hraunfossar. Further deep into the fjord you will find caves around Húsafell, for example, Víðgelmir, the largest and most spectacular lava tunnel in Iceland.
