Skriðuklaustur, a mansion of a famous Icelandic author Gunnar Gunnarsson is only 25 km away. Its name comes from an old monastery from the 16th century, and you can enjoy art exhibitions and cultural events. We recommend Café Klausturkaffi that is inside the dining room of the old mansion. Nearby one can explore an archaeological excavation of the former monastery.
Egilsstaðir, the capital of the east, is around 15 minutes drive away. It is situated at the northern part of the Lagarfljót river and is the largest settlement of the Eastern Region with ca 2500 inhabitants. It has everything from gas stations, supermarkets, restaurants, cafés, and a swimming pool.

What guests are saying
Hella and Dieter from Bremen»And in the evening in the sunshine on the terrace and relaxing in the hot tub. «
Bianca & Manuel from Switzerland»We spent 3 weeks in Iceland. It´s our honeymoon. We started first in Reykjavík & also for 3 nights nearby Hvolsvöllur. Now we are here for 4 nights. The first thing that we both thought about Solbakki was: "What a wonderful place!" We really enjoyed our stay here in Solbakki. (We went to Mývatn, Hengifoss & nearby Bakkagerði there are a lot of puffins!) It will be a place that we will show our children...:) «
Stephan & Marina»We had a very pleasant stay in this beautiful summerhouse! Really enjoyed it here! We used the days for some hiking, visited the Dam (which itself was closed because of the vulcano) and did some sightseeing in the fjords of the east. A perfect day´s ending was the hot pot to warm us up. (The weather was quite cold). Greetings from southern Germany, «

Flip Rothbarth»Nice holiday house, excellent location. The only disadvantage was the barbeque, where the gas was not included. Purchasing gas is very expensive in Iceland (ISK 15.000). A charcoal barbeque is an acceptable alternative, because charcoal is much cheeper than gas.«

»The house was in a great location, unfortunately a bit outdated. Equipment in the kitchen ok.«
