Akureyri sits at the end of Eyjafjörður and, with about 20,000 residents, is the largest town in North Iceland. It’s often called the "Capital of the North" and is the region’s centre for commerce and services, with a harbour and a domestic airport. There are supermarkets, restaurants, gas stations, swimming pools, and museums.
Akureyri Church, in the town centre, was built in 1940; its stained-glass windows depict scenes from Icelandic Christian history. The nearby Akureyri Art Museum displays contemporary art from Iceland and abroad. The Botanical Garden, also close to the town centre, features plants from all over Iceland. The Christmas House, Jólahúsið, is open year-round.

What guests are saying
Thanks for the nice stay. Lisa & Anne from Berlin, Germany» We had wonderful days in this lovingly decorated house. «
Takk, Martin & Birgitta & Isabel from Bavaria»We stayed in your house for one great week. It was our harbour for discovering the area from Sandanes to Dettifoss. The north of Iceland showed us the midnight sun, the waterfall, the volcanos, the whales and your lovely house. We enjoyed your stay here a lot and looking forward to our second week in the south. «
Steffi, Erich and Anna from Germany»Dear hosts, we had a wonderful week with many impressions, many kilometres driven and what felt like 1000 photos. We felt very comfortable in your house. Our personal highlights were the volcanic area around Lake Mývatn, Dettifoss and Godafoss. Whales and dolphins and the wonderful fjords in the north. «
