The house Þrasastaðir at Lake Ljósavatn in Iceland is an excellent hub for visiting the wonders of the North.

As a guest, you are welcome to use the fishing rods of the owner and try to catch some arctic trout to then grill on the Weber barbecue on the big terrace. You will also have the private use of a half-covered hot tub, which can be useful in case of heavy rain. The picturesque waterfall Goðafoss is only 8km away.

One of the three bedrooms is in the attic, which is accessible through steep stairs. This bedroom also has a double bed and a lovely alpine style balcony overlooking the mountains. In the big living room stands a fireplace that you are welcome to light up on cold nights. In the modern kitchen, you will find everything you will need for cooking. Inside the house, you will have a toilet and sink and in a separate room accessible from the terrace you will find a shower.

On the terrace, you will find some garden furniture to enjoy morning tea or coffee.

Ljósavatnsskarð is a valley between Akureyri and Lake Mývatn and here it is where you find the wonder of Goðafoss - Iceland's whitest waterfall. There is also a small shop with souvenirs, a local art, craft and food market and WC facilities.

Ljósavatnsskarð valley is also the access route if you want to go to Bárðardalur and Sprengisandur in the highlands. A vehicle suitable for highland roads is necessary.

Akureyri is ca 25 km west from here, situated at the base of Eyjafjörður Fjord. It is the biggest town in North Iceland with a population of ca 19.000 and is often referred to as Capital the of North. Akureyri is a center of commerce with a harbour and airport for domestic flights. You find a number of supermarkets, restaurants and gas stations here, as well as swimming pools and interesting museums and other sights.
