Eyrarskógur lies north of Hvalfjörður fjord on the way to Skorradalur.
Hvalfjörður is located in western Iceland between Mosfellsbær and Akranes. The fjord is only 50 km
from Reykjavik and is approximately 30 km long and 5 km wide. The area is particularly quiet
and peaceful, offering a great opportunity to enjoy the unique beauty of the fjord with its fields, shores, canyons, and waterfalls.
Skorradalur is on the way to Borgarfjörður, with its many attractions such as the Hraunfossar and Barnafossar waterfalls, as well as the Deildatunguhver hot spring. In
Skorradalur, there is a large lake called Skorradalsvatn. It is 16 km long, 1 km wide, and up to 60 m deep. A beautiful area for short or long hikes.
Driving towards Borgarnes and turning off towards Reykholt before reaching Borgarnes, you will enter a very active geothermal area. A visit to the Krauma thermal baths is highly recommended.
On the southern shore of Hvalfjord is the Hvammsvik natural thermal baths – Hot Springs. At these baths, you can not only relax in the warm water on the fjord's shore, but also enjoy typical Icelandic cuisine.
Towards Akranes, you will reach the very striking mountain Akrafjall (640m above sea level). This mountain has two peaks offering wonderful views of the surrounding mountains, the town of Akranes, and, on a clear day, as far as the Reykanesbær peninsula and Reykjavik.
Borgarnes is one of the nearest towns (approx. 40 km) with restaurants, larger supermarkets, cafes, and the fascinating Settlement Centre museum. There is also
a lovely pool with a steam room, an ice bath, and hot tubs.
The drive to the Snæfelsnes peninsula, with its many attractions and, of course, the Sæfelsjökull glacier, takes about 1.5 hours. This makes for a wonderful day trip.
